I breathe in, feeling the soles of my feet warming as they shift ever so slightly inside my winter boots. Even through the thick soles, I can sense the texture of the forest floor, the sandy soil packed with twigs and the slick, deepening brown of fallen leaves. The world is drab, November dull, but when I pay attention, the colors take on more subtle hues, the scents of the woods come alive.
